Samsung Electronics has announced the release of its newest flagship model, the S25 Edge, which boasts a sleek design and enhanced artificial intelligence capabilities. The slim and portable smartphone is aimed at meeting the demands of consumers, particularly in their 20s and 30s, who seek a device that combines performance with convenience.

To achieve its slim profile, Samsung made significant changes to the internal components of the S25 Edge, including the printed circuit board and thermal systems. The launch of the S25 Edge comes at a strategic time, ahead of Apple's anticipated release of a thinner iPhone later in the year. This move is seen as a calculated decision by Samsung to capture a segment of the market looking for thinner smartphones and potentially impact Apple's sales.

Scheduled to be available in South Korea on May 23 and in the United States on May 30, the S25 Edge will be rolled out to approximately 30 countries globally, including China and Europe. Priced starting at $1,099, the model features a 6.7-inch screen and measures just 5.8 millimeters in thickness, making it larger than the basic S25 model but still lightweight.

The S25 Edge incorporates Samsung's latest AI technology, enabling users to interact with the device in real-time through various modes, including vision and voice commands using the camera. Despite not disclosing the production site for the new model, Samsung's move to introduce the S25 Edge reflects its push to maintain its position as the world's leading smartphone vendor.

Recent data from Counterpoint Research revealed that Samsung surpassed Apple in the first quarter of 2025, capturing 20% of the global market share. However, Samsung has expressed concerns about potential impacts on second-quarter shipments due to tariff risks affecting demand, emphasizing the competitive nature of the smartphone market as both companies continuously strive to innovate and attract consumers.
