YouTube, the video-sharing platform owned by Google, has reportedly generated nearly $40 billion in revenue over the past 12 months, according to its CEO Neal Mohan. Speaking at the MoffettNathanson technology conference on Thursday, Mohan stated that advertising remains the primary driver of monetization for YouTube. The company will continue to focus on advertising opportunities across its fastest-growing products, including Shorts, which is aimed at competing with the popular video-sharing app TikTok, and connected TVs.
While Google's parent company, Alphabet Inc., recently reported a decline in YouTube revenue for the third consecutive quarter due to a slowdown in demand for digital advertising, Mohan noted that the company's business is showing signs of stabilization. Specifically, spending on advertising by travel and retail businesses has improved, suggesting that YouTube's revenue may begin to recover.
Overall, Mohan's comments suggest that YouTube's revenue remains strong, and the company is well-positioned to continue growing its business through advertising opportunities. As the demand for digital advertising continues to rise, YouTube's success in this area is likely to continue for the foreseeable future.
