The long-awaited premiere of Martin Scorsese's "Killers of the Flower Moon" at the Cannes Film Festival drew crowds of fans to the red carpet on Saturday evening. The star-studded cast, including Hollywood legends Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro, as well as Jesse Plemons, Brendan Fraser, John Lithgow, and Lily Gladstone, had people buzzing with excitement.
The film, which runs for nearly four hours, is based on the best-selling book of the same name. It tells the story of a series of murders targeting the oil-rich Osage Nation in 1920s Oklahoma. Although the film is being shown out of competition, festival director Thierry Fremaux revealed that he had invited it to enter the running for the Palme d'Or after Apple agreed to release it in theaters before streaming it globally.
In a unique move, Apple has partnered with Paramount Pictures to release the film exclusively in theaters on October 6th before streaming it. This is a precondition for the film to be eligible to compete at Cannes. The news has caused quite a stir, as it represents a significant change in the way films are released and consumed.
Scorsese is no stranger to Cannes, having won the festival's top prize in 1976 with "Taxi Driver," which also starred Robert De Niro. With such a talented cast and a gripping story, "Killers of the Flower Moon" is sure to be a hit with audiences when it hits theaters later this year.
