On March 30th, Peru's Congress will decide whether to consider a motion to discuss the impeachment of President Dina Boluarte, indicating that the country's political crisis is ongoing. Congress leader Jose Williams stated that if the motion gains the necessary votes, Boluarte will have the chance to defend herself with her lawyer in Congress. The motion for impeachment is based on Boluarte's alleged "permanent moral incapacity" to govern the country, which is a constitutional cause for removing a head of state in Peru. The allegation is related to the deaths during anti-government protests, which prompted leftist lawmakers to introduce the first impeachment motion against Boluarte in January due to the violence.

Boluarte was sworn in as head of state in December after former President Pedro Castillo was impeached and arrested for trying to suspend Congress, leading to nationwide protests. For impeachment proceedings against Boluarte to commence, at least 52 lawmakers or 40% of the 130-member Congress need to vote in favor of the motion. At least 87 of the lawmakers' votes would then be necessary for the formal removal of the president.
