The Foo Fighters have announced that Josh Freese will be taking over as their new drummer. This news comes after the tragic passing of their longtime friend and drummer, Taylor Hawkins, in March of 2022.
During the band's livestream event on Sunday, which previewed their upcoming 11th studio album, "But Here We Are", they introduced Freese as Hawkins' successor. Freese is a veteran drummer who has worked with many top musicians, including Nine Inch Nails, The Offspring, Sting, and Weezer. He even played with the Foo Fighters at a tribute show for Hawkins in London in 2022, using the late drummer's own drum kit.
Freese expressed his gratitude for Hawkins and their close friendship. They often bonded over being the "only 2 guys from (Orange County) in the room." He even insisted on playing Hawkins' drum set during the London tribute show, as he wanted to bring the same energy to the stage that Hawkins had.
The Foo Fighters confirmed earlier this year that they would continue as a band, despite the loss of Hawkins. They acknowledged that their sound may change without him, but they would carry on with him in spirit at every concert.
In April, the band announced that they would release a new album, "But Here We Are", which was inspired by a year of personal introspection, bittersweet memories, and staggering losses.
The Foo Fighters are set to begin a summer tour on May 24 in New Hampshire. Fans are excited to hear their new album and witness the band's dynamic with their new drummer, Josh Freese.
