Kilicdaroglu pledged to continue his fight for "real democracy" in Turkey despite his loss. He accused Erdogan of creating a climate of fear and tension during the election period. Foreign leaders from Russia, Qatar, Libya, Algeria, Hungary, Iran, and the Palestinian Authority have congratulated Erdogan on his victory.

The president's supporters celebrated in Istanbul's Taksim Square, chanting his name and "God is great." The opposition described the election as a last stand for democracy, accusing Erdogan of eroding democratic institutions during his 20-year rule. The divided country now faces hard times ahead, said Kilicdaroglu's adviser Mehmet Karli, who described Erdogan's victory as a "pyrrhic victory," fueling tensions in the nation.

Erdogan's victory in the elections is significant as it allows him to implement his plans for the country, including his unorthodox economic policies that have been criticized by experts. The country is also reeling from a recent economic crisis and a catastrophic February 6 earthquake that claimed more than 50,000 lives in Turkey and neighboring Syria.

The election was fiercely contested, with six opposition groups forming an unprecedented unified bloc behind Kilicdaroglu to wrest power from Erdogan. Despite their efforts, Erdogan secured nearly 52% of the votes.

The country's financial crisis, which saw the currency plummet and prices soar, is partially attributed to Erdogan's policies, including the suppression of interest rates and rampant inflation. He also faces criticism for hollowing out democratic institutions to consolidate his power. Erdogan has also drawn flak for his foreign policy, particularly his close relationship with Russia's President Putin and his anti-Sweden stance in NATO.

Erdogan's victory in the elections affirms his crucial role as a power broker in the region, particularly amid Russia's invasion of Ukraine. His balancing act between the two sides, known as "pro-Ukrainian neutrality," has been praised by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Despite the divided nation, Erdogan's supporters remain optimistic about his victory, while the opposition vows to continue the fight for real democracy in Turkey. Time will tell whether Erdogan will use his renewed mandate to implement positive changes in the country or continue to erode its democratic institutions.
