According to the German ambassador to Ukraine, Anka Feldhusen, Ukraine has the potential to become a major exporter of clean energy to the European Union, particularly to Germany. Discussions about this matter started even before the full-scale war, and negotiations and project development are still ongoing.
The diplomat noted that Germany has always aimed to transition to renewable energy sources, and Russian aggression has only accelerated the achievement of this goal. However, she added that Germany still relies slightly more on coal than it would like to at present.
We have started talking to Ukraine about this issue, where it can be a partner in this field. We have been doing this even before the war and we really want to focus on this topic. Ukraine can become a major exporter, and we really want to develop such projects where we can cooperate now. In Germany, the discussion is still ongoing and it is very difficult. But I see that our coalition wants to achieve goals that will help to combat climate change much faster - said Anka Feldhusen.
