President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has announced that Turkey will increase its minimum wage in July, as part of his ongoing efforts to appeal to voters ahead of elections. The exact amount of the increase has not been disclosed by the state-run Anadolu Agency, which reported Erdogan's comments. This will be the second hike in the minimum wage this year, following a 55% increase in January. Erdogan's popularity has been threatened by the worst cost-of-living crisis in his two decades in power.
The new increase will come after other financial measures announced by Erdogan, such as debt relief, pension boosts, energy price cuts, and early retirement for over two million people. These policies have boosted the economy but have also contributed to inflation, with annual consumer prices increasing by 55% last month.
