Peugeot, a subsidiary of Stellantis NV, remains optimistic as it sees a healthy order book and strong demand for electric vehicles (EVs) despite challenges in the global auto market. Linda Jackson, CEO of Peugeot, stated in an interview that the brand's EV sales have remained solid, even in the face of competition from Chinese manufacturers. However, she acknowledged that the ongoing debate within the European Union about the details of the green transition has caused some confusion among potential buyers regarding the use of e-fuels and the timeline for phasing out combustion engines.

Despite these uncertainties, European carmakers are facing increasing pressure to produce higher quality EVs at a competitive price. Rising inflation and a global economic slowdown have led to aggressive price cuts by Tesla Inc. and other companies, intensifying the competition. To overcome these challenges, Peugeot aims to leverage the technological advancements and synergies within the Stellantis family of brands to produce EVs more efficiently.

"We are also sharing a lot of the technology between those 14 brands," Jackson mentioned, highlighting the collaboration between different brands under Stellantis. This strategy allows brand CEOs to choose the most suitable technology for their vehicles, ensuring optimal performance and cost-effectiveness. Additionally, Peugeot plans to enhance its EV profile by rolling out a pay-as-you-go subscription program in Europe. This innovative offering allows customers to pay a monthly fee, as well as a fee per kilometer driven, for its popular e-208 model.

While Peugeot focuses on expanding its presence in South America and other countries like South Africa, Malaysia, Thailand, and Morocco, the brand has no plans to enter the US market. Meanwhile, the company is also working on incorporating new design options to meet the diverse tastes and needs of buyers. One such design feature is a rectangular steering control center inspired by video games. Scheduled to be introduced in 2026 or 2027, this unique feature aims to enhance the driving experience and cater to the evolving preferences of consumers.

Overall, Peugeot remains committed to its electric-vehicle strategy and is determined to meet the demands of customers, leveraging technological advancements and innovative subscription services to drive the adoption of EVs across Europe and beyond.
