Huge Demand for Taylor Swift's Singapore Shows as Online Queue Surpasses One Million. Taylor Swift's dedicated fan base in Asia came out in full force as ticket sales for the pop star's six Singapore shows went live on Wednesday. The overwhelming demand caused Ticketmaster's website to experience technical issues, with over a million fans reportedly waiting in the online queue.
Fans took to social media, particularly Twitter, to express their frustration with logging onto the website and securing tickets to Swift's only Southeast Asian performances on her Eras world tour.
Ticketmaster's website implemented a system where fans entering before the pre-sale began at noon were placed into a virtual waiting room and assigned queue numbers. The numbers quickly skyrocketed, reaching six figures in no time. It remains uncertain how many fans were utilizing multiple devices or browser tabs to increase their chances.
Among the lucky fans who patiently waited in the queue, Naila Nadeem, a 23-year-old Singaporean, managed to secure four tickets for Swift's first show on March 2 after spending over an hour on the Ticketmaster site. Nadeem described the ticketing experience as the most stressful she has ever encountered.
The pre-sale tickets for the Singapore shows sold out within hours, with availability marked as "sold out" by around 3 p.m. It is worth noting that United Overseas Bank Ltd. cardholders in Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam were granted access to the pre-sale 48 hours prior to the general public. In response to queries from Bloomberg News, UOB revealed that credit card applications across these markets experienced a significant 45% increase on a daily average since Swift announced her concert dates, compared to earlier in June.
Interestingly, Taylor Swift recently expanded her initial three-night stint in Singapore to a total of six dates, matching the record set by British rock band Coldplay for their upcoming performance in the city-state next year. With the general ticket sale set to begin at noon on Friday, fans are eagerly anticipating another round of overwhelming demand and fierce competition for tickets to see their favorite pop star live.
