While Cadillac has not disclosed the exact weight of the vehicle, a private preview event in Los Angeles hinted that it could be as heavy or even heavier than the 9,000-pound GMC Hummer EV Pickup. With dimensions of almost 19 feet long, 8 feet wide, and over 6 feet tall, the Escalade IQ is a colossal vehicle. However, its sleek and sophisticated design gives it a more elegant and refined appearance compared to its internal combustion predecessor.

The Escalade IQ boasts several notable design elements, including a lower roofline with a tapered shape, sleek icicle-shaped headlights, and piano key-like taillights. Additionally, the vehicle features a storage compartment under the hood, offering 12 cubic feet of cargo space. This ample storage area is perfect for accommodating items such as golf bags. According to Robin Krieg, lead exterior designer of the Escalade IQ, the goal was to create the ultimate luxury SUV that deviated from the traditional boxy design, resulting in a vehicle that embodies the dream of what an Escalade should be.

Underneath its impressive exterior, the Escalade IQ utilizes General Motors' Ultium Platform, which is specifically designed for electric vehicles. It follows in the footsteps of Cadillac's $58,590 Lyriq SUV and precedes the highly anticipated electric Celestiq hatchback. These vehicles are part of GM's strategic plan to compete with Tesla in the electric vehicle market while also revitalizing the Cadillac brand. GM aims to generate $50 billion in revenue from its electric vehicle lineup by 2025.

One of the primary focuses during the engineering process of the Escalade IQ was to provide a smooth and comfortable ride for passengers in this massive SUV. The vehicle comes equipped with 24-inch wheels and 35-inch tires, powered by front- and rear-drive motors in an eAWD system. Magnetic Ride Control and Adaptive Air Ride Suspension are standard features, with the latter allowing the vehicle to be lowered by two inches or raised by one inch at the push of a button. The Escalade IQ also offers additional driving modes, such as a Low Ride Mode for maneuvering in low-speed situations with the suspension fully lowered, and Four-wheel Steering for navigating tight spaces with a reduced turning radius.

In terms of performance, the Escalade IQ packs a punch. With over 200 kilowatt-hours of available energy, it charges to 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes using 800-volt DC fast-charging. The vehicle boasts 750 horsepower, 785 pound-feet of torque, and a zero-to-60 mph sprint time of under five seconds. While the Escalade IQ has a towing capacity of 8,000 pounds, its luxurious features and high price tag make it better suited for cruising down Hollywood Boulevard than for heavy-duty towing.

Step inside the Escalade IQ, and you are greeted by a curved 55-inch LED display dominating the dashboard. This display provides an array of infotainment features, including Google Maps, Google Play, hands-free communication, and real-time traffic updates. The executive second-row seating package offers a luxurious experience with two pilot chairs, stowable tray tables, personal entertainment screens, a rear command center, wireless phone charging, USB-C ports, headrest speakers, and heated seats that provide massages. Additionally, the third row of seats can be used to accommodate up to seven passengers or can be folded flat to create additional storage space.

In a conscious effort towards sustainability, Cadillac has opted for synthetic materials throughout the interior of the Escalade IQ, rather than offering traditional leather options. This decision aligns with growing consumer preferences for more environmentally friendly alternatives. The vehicle comes standard with a panoramic fixed-glass roof that is tinted and treated with a UV-filtering film to reduce heat in the cabin. An internal sunshade is also available for added privacy and shade.

Cadillac aims to maintain its leadership position in the large luxury SUV segment, and the Escalade IQ is a testament to their commitment to innovation and excellence. The Escalade has consistently accounted for approximately a quarter of the market share in this segment, with an average transaction price well above the brand's average. The introduction of the electric Escalade IQ is expected to further elevate Cadillac's success in this lucrative market.

Production of the Cadillac Escalade IQ is scheduled to begin in summer 2024, and it holds great promise for the brand's electric vehicle lineup. With its striking design, exceptional performance capabilities, and luxurious interior, the Escalade IQ is set to make a significant impact on the electric SUV market and contribute to GM's ambitious revenue goals in the electric vehicle sector.
