New York's Central Park is poised to make history tonight as a winter storm sweeps across the central United States and moves eastward, bringing with it the much-awaited snowfall. According to the National Weather Service, this snowfall could break the record for the longest snow drought in Central Park in at least 701 days. Forecasters are predicting 2 to 3 inches of snowfall, marking the first time in years that the city will witness widespread snowfall.

The snowfall has already begun in Washington and Baltimore, gradually making its way up the coast towards New York and Boston. Zack Taylor, a senior branch forecaster at the US Weather Prediction Center, expressed excitement about this unusual weather event, stating, "This is the first time in a couple of years to have widespread snow across the major cities."

In addition to the much-anticipated snowfall, the winter storm also brings frigid temperatures that have been plaguing the central US. While the biting cold won't be as severe as in the central states, these arctic temperatures are expected to reach the East Coast. Washington, D.C. is forecast to experience a low of 16°F (-8.8°C) on Tuesday night, while Central Park in New York City is predicted to drop to 22°F (-5.5°C). This is a stark contrast to the unseasonably warm temperatures experienced just a few days ago when highs reached 60°F in New York and 55°F at Washington National Airport.

Zack Taylor further explained, "We're solidly into the winter patterns across the central and eastern US as the arctic airmass settles overhead." The cold weather is expected to persist for a while but is anticipated to gradually moderate over the course of the next week.

However, relief may be just around the corner for those who are not fans of the cold. The US Climate Prediction Center suggests a growing chance of above-average temperatures across the entire contiguous US from January 22 to 26. This means that even though New York City and other East Coast cities are currently bundled up for the winter, warmer days may soon be on the horizon.

As we wait for the flakes to fall, New Yorkers are preparing for the first significant snowfall in years, eagerly anticipating the enchanting transformation of Central Park into a winter wonderland. Meanwhile, winter lovers and snow enthusiasts in the region are excitedly dusting off their sleds, strapping on their skis, and envisioning the delightful winter activities that will soon be at their fingertips.
