In a strategic move to bolster his party’s standing ahead of the European Parliament elections, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has announced plans for a significant overhaul of his cabinet next month. The reshuffle is slated to take place on May 10th and is set to bring about key changes within the government structure. Tusk had hinted at the possibility of a cabinet revamp earlier, pointing towards a potential shakeup during the spring or summer months.

The catalyst for this urgent cabinet reshuffle came with the decision of State Assets Minister Borys Budka to run in the upcoming European Union-wide election in June. Budka, who has been instrumental in the restructuring of boards at major Polish companies under Tusk’s leadership, has created a void that needs to be filled. Additionally, Culture Minister Bartlomiej Sienkiewicz, known for his role in reorganizing public media after years of nationalist influence, has also stepped down to pursue a seat in the European Parliament.

In an update shared on a social media platform, Tusk mentioned that he would be temporarily stepping away from his official duties in the coming week due to a bout of pneumonia. However, he assured the public that once he recovers, he will resume his responsibilities with full vigor. Tusk also expressed his intention to attend an important conference in Brussels on May 7th, where he will meet with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

Despite his health setback, Tusk was present at a parliamentary session in Warsaw where Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski delivered a speech. The government used the occasion to unveil an aid plan aimed at supporting Polish farmers. With these developments in motion, Tusk's upcoming cabinet overhaul is expected to bring about significant changes within the Polish government as it braces for the crucial European Parliament elections.
