In response to recent changes in Turkey's customs regulations, Nike Inc. has made the decision to temporarily suspend online sales through its website and mobile app in the country. The move comes after Turkey implemented new measures that included lowering the tax threshold on online purchases from abroad and increasing the tax rates on goods imported from the European Union and other countries.

The US sneaker giant stated that the suspension of online orders was necessary as they could not guarantee a smooth and timely delivery for their consumers. While Nike did not explicitly mention the specific changes that led to this decision, the new Turkish regulation reduced the tax threshold to 30 euros from 150 euros and raised the tax rates to 30% and 60% for EU and non-EU purchases, respectively.

Despite the suspension of online sales, Nike reassured customers that their products are still available for purchase at their physical stores and retail partners in Turkey. The company is closely monitoring the impact of the recent customs regulations on the shopping experience for Turkish consumers.

According to Trade Minister Omer Bolat, the new customs measures are intended to mitigate negative effects on market share, employment, and foreign currency reserves. The government aims to support local businesses, including store owners and small and medium enterprises, through these changes.

As Nike navigates the evolving regulatory landscape in Turkey, the company remains committed to providing high-quality products to its customers while adapting to the new tax policies in the country.
