Lamborghini SpA has taken the automotive world by storm once again with the introduction of the 2025 Lamborghini Urus SE, a hybrid version of its popular Urus SUV. Unveiled on April 24, this powerhouse vehicle combines a twin-turbo V8 engine with an electric motor to produce an impressive 789 horsepower and 700 pound-feet of torque. With a 0-62mph sprint time of just 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 193mph, the Urus SE promises exhilarating performance that rivals its non-hybrid counterpart.
Scheduled for delivery in early 2025, the Urus SE is set to compete against other luxury hybrid SUVs like the Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid and Bentley Bentayga Hybrid. Priced starting at $258,000, the Urus SE represents a premium offering in Lamborghini's lineup, commanding approximately an 8% premium over the Urus S model. Despite the higher price tag, the added performance and efficiency of the hybrid configuration are sure to attract discerning buyers looking for the best of both worlds.
One of the key features of the Urus SE is its all-wheel-drive system, coupled with 11 different drive modes to tailor the driving experience to the driver's preferences. Additionally, the vehicle boasts an impressive 37 miles of all-electric driving range, offering a blend of electrified efficiency and traditional Lamborghini power. The company touts the Urus SE as an environmentally conscious choice, with an 80% reduction in emissions compared to the conventional Urus model, highlighting its commitment to sustainability without compromising on performance.
This launch comes at a critical juncture for the high-end automotive industry, as various companies navigate the shift toward electric vehicles. While some automakers are doubling down on fully electric offerings, Lamborghini has taken a strategic approach by focusing on hybridization before transitioning to all-electric models. CEO Stephan Winkelmann acknowledges the changing landscape but remains confident in Lamborghini's hybrid strategy, emphasizing the importance of being the best rather than the first in the market.
With record sales in 2024 and the Urus SUV accounting for more than half of Lamborghini's total vehicle sales, the company is poised to capitalize on the success of the Urus SE. Winkelmann expects the hybrid variant to eventually make up a significant portion of Urus sales, combining efficiency with the raw power that Lamborghini is known for. As the automotive world shifts towards electrification, Lamborghini's calculated approach to hybridization sets it apart as a brand that prioritizes both performance and sustainability in equal measure.
