Apple has officially unveiled its long-awaited iPhone 17 series smartphones, focusing on a radically new design and improvements to key features. The announcement took place during a traditional event at the company's headquarters in Cupertino, and although the event was held under a catchy slogan designed to evoke admiration, there was little real enthusiasm from investors and the market. Along with smartphones, the company also showed updated versions of smart watches and flagship wireless headphones, but it is the iPhone that remains the central product in the brand's portfolio, bringing in the bulk of revenue, which forces Apple to look for new ways to retain consumer interest in a saturated market and growing competition in critical regions such as China.
CEO Tim Cook called the new iPhone Air a real revolution during the presentation, but in fact, the revolutionary nature of this model is manifested mainly in its form factor. The device turned out to be incredibly thin and light, its thickness is only 5.6 millimeters, which is even less than that of its main competitor - the Galaxy S25 Edge model from Samsung. To ensure durability, engineers used ceramic screens on both sides of the case, which theoretically should increase the gadget's resistance to damage. The cost of the new product is set at nine hundred and ninety-nine dollars, which positions it between the standard and professional versions.
As for the technical stuffing, it is worth noting the use of Apple's own chip, responsible for the operation of wireless interfaces, including Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, as well as the use of a faster version of the modem, which was first tested in last year's experimental iPhone 16e model. The professional version, in turn, in addition to similar ceramic protection, received a new aluminum case and an improved cooling system, which, according to the company, allows it to demonstrate forty percent higher performance compared to its predecessor.
It is worth noting that the leak of information deprived the presentation of the element of surprise in advance, as a result of which the stock market reaction was restrained. The company's shares continued their smooth decline on the day of the announcement, losing another one and a half percent of their value, which only worsened the overall negative dynamics of the year. It is obvious that in the current market situation, Apple needs not just an evolutionary update of the product line, but something truly capable of reversing the trend and making consumers really want the next generation of iPhone.
