The immense gulf between the two teams was evident from the very beginning. France, currently the second-ranked team in the world, faced off against Gibraltar, a nation languishing at a lowly 198th position. The difference in quality was astoundingly apparent as Les Bleus completely outplayed their opponents on the pitch.

The scale of the victory not only set a new record for the qualifying stages, surpassing Germany's 13-0 demolition of San Marino in 2006, but it also marked the first time a European team had achieved the astonishing feat of scoring 14 goals in a World Cup or European Championship qualifying match.

Mbappé's amazing long-range strike to complete his hat trick stood out from among the multitude of goals scored by France that evening at the Allianz Riviera in Nice. The match witnessed a goal bonanza, with an incredible seven goals being netted in each half.

Another milestone was achieved by 17-year-old Warren Zaïre-Emery, who became France's youngest player since 1914. Not only did he make his debut for the national team, but he also managed to find the back of the net during the first half, further adding to the historic night.

The encounter got off to a disastrous start for Gibraltar when Ethan Santos scored an own goal just three minutes into the game. Matters went from bad to worse as Santos was subsequently sent off in the 18th minute for a foul on Zaïre-Emery, ultimately ending the teenager's participation in the match.

France displayed an unrelenting attacking prowess, with goals pouring in from all angles. Marcus Thuram, Jonathan Clauss, Youssouf Fofana, Adrien Rabiot, Ousmane Dembélé, Olivier Giroud, and Kingsley Coman all helped themselves to the scoresheet, each contributing with vital goals.

Despite their overwhelming superiority, France manager Didier Deschamps emphasized the importance of respecting the opponent. Deschamps acknowledged that playing against 10 men made matters even more challenging for Gibraltar but commended his team for maintaining their focus and professionalism throughout the match.

An astonishing total of 39 attempts on goal, with 19 of those hitting the target, showcased France's relentless determination to make their mark on the scoreline. In stark contrast, Gibraltar failed to muster even a single chance against their formidable opponents.

With this emphatic victory, France solidified their position at the top of Group B, having already qualified for Euro 2024 in Germany. On the other end of the spectrum, a winless Gibraltar occupies the bottom spot, still without a single point or a goal scored in the qualification campaign.

The night will undoubtedly be remembered as one of France's most memorable performances, while Gibraltar will seek to regroup and learn from this humbling experience.
