In western Victoria, large bushfires are currently raging out of control, prompting authorities to express concerns about potential intensification on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. The Country Fire Authority reported that the fires have already scorched over 34,000 hectares (84,000 acres) of land as of Sunday morning.

Emergency evacuation warnings remain in effect for the town of Halls Gap and surrounding areas in the Grampians region, where the fires have posed a significant threat to the community. Halls Gap, a town with a population of approximately 495 residents, is located about 250 kilometers (155 miles) west-northwest of Melbourne.

Despite overnight efforts by firefighters to bring certain areas under control, the volatile conditions persist, with temperatures expected to soar above 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit) on Christmas Day. Deputy chief officer of the CFA, Garry Cook, has described the forecasted weather as “really challenging,” with strong winds further complicating firefighting efforts.

In addition to the bushfires in the Grampians region, two other blazes are still burning out of control in Victoria. One fire northwest of Melbourne, near Bullengerook, has prompted a "Watch and Act" warning, while another fire to the south at The Gurdies, situated 100 kilometers from Melbourne, has been issued a lower "Stay Informed" advisory, according to the CFA website.

As communities brace for the potential escalation of the bushfires amid scorching temperatures and high winds, authorities are urging residents to stay vigilant and follow evacuation orders to ensure their safety during this volatile period.
