Jaguar is recalling over 6,000 I-Pace electric SUVs in the United States due to the potential risk of their high-voltage battery packs catching fire. The automaker has advised owners to park the vehicles outdoors until the recall repairs have been completed. The recall is the latest in a series of electric vehicle battery recalls, primarily due to the potential for fires.

Documents released by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration confirm that the recall covers all Jaguar SUVs built between 2019 and 2024. The vehicles were equipped with battery packs manufactured by LG Energy Solution, which is currently under investigation by the NHTSA after multiple automakers issued recalls due to defects that could cause fires or stalling.

The NHTSA opened an investigation covering over 138,000 vehicles with lithium-ion batteries made by LG Energy Solution in April of 2022. Since February of 2020, General Motors, Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai, Stellantis, and Volkswagen have announced recalls due to internal battery failures that can increase the risk of fires.

The NHTSA will contact LG and other manufacturers that may have produced similar batteries, ensuring that necessary recalls are conducted promptly. Until the recall repairs have been completed, Jaguar owners should park their vehicles away from structures and charge them outdoors, according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Jaguar's decision to recall over 6,000 I-Pace electric SUVs underscores the automaker's unwavering commitment to safety and consumer trust. While electric vehicle recalls have been increasingly common in recent years, manufacturers must take swift action to address any potential defects and reassure consumers that their EVs are safe to drive.
