In a bold move that harks back to the golden age of supercars, former Lamborghini chief technical officer Maurizio Reggiani has joined forces with Eccentrica, a San Marino-based company specializing in revamping classic Lamborghinis. Their mission? To breathe new life into the iconic Diablo, first unleashed in 1990 by legendary designer Marcello Gandini.

Eccentrica's ambitious project involves updating 19 Diablos, each priced at €1.35 million. While retaining the Diablo's timeless silhouette, these modernized masterpieces will feature enhanced steering, shifting, and braking systems, along with updated traction control and air conditioning. Not stopping there, the classic headlights will also be given a contemporary makeover.

Under the hood, a reengineered 5.7-liter V-12 engine from the early Diablo models will power these beauties, delivering a staggering 550 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque – an improvement over the original's output. Reggiani, known for his engineering prowess behind Lamborghini's most iconic models, expressed excitement at the opportunity to merge the nostalgia of yesteryear with cutting-edge technology.

This project, in essence, rebuffs the trend of electrifying classic cars, as Reggiani argues that the purity of the V-12 experience is incomparable. In a world where hybrid powertrains dominate headlines, Eccentrica's approach focuses on preserving the raw, unfiltered driving pleasure that enthusiasts crave.

The decision to preserve the V-12's distinctive roar reflects the desires of Lamborghini aficionados who value emotion, tradition, and mechanical artistry over sheer performance figures. Reggiani stresses the importance of weight reduction over horsepower gains, asserting that the driving experience should prioritize human connection and sensory engagement above all else.

As the automotive industry hurtles towards electrification, projects like Eccentrica's Diablo refresh highlight a growing appetite for analog driving experiences in a digital world. With deliveries slated to commence in June 2025, these meticulously crafted machines are poised to become coveted symbols of automotive passion and craftsmanship in an increasingly electric era.
