Argentine soccer superstar Lionel Messi expressed his regret on Tuesday for not being able to participate in a friendly match in Hong Kong. Messi, who currently plays for Major League Soccer team Inter Miami, did not step onto the pitch to play against a Hong Kong XI on Sunday, leading to outrage among fans. Messi stated to reporters, "I couldn't be in the Hong Kong game, and it's a shame because I always want to participate. I want to be there, especially in games like these that require traveling so far and where people are incredibly excited to see us play."

The immense popularity of the soccer icon has caused fans to clamor for the opportunity to watch Inter Miami's games during their preseason tour. The match in Hong Kong attracted a sellout crowd of 40,000 spectators. Unfortunately, frustrations arose when Messi remained on the bench, causing the fans to boo, jeer, and demand refunds for their tickets.

Even the Hong Kong government voiced its disappointment, expressing their hope to see Messi in action during the game. Manager Gerardo "Tata" Martino later explained that both Messi and his former Barcelona teammate, Luis Suárez, were advised by the medical staff to stay on the bench.

Following the Hong Kong disappointment, Inter Miami has now arrived in Tokyo for the next phase of their preseason tour. They are set to face off against Japanese side Vissel Kobe on Wednesday.

Understanding the fans' disappointment, Messi mentioned that he comprehended their frustration at his absence. Nonetheless, he expressed aspirations that Inter Miami would have the opportunity to play in Hong Kong again at some point in the future.

As for his availability for the match against Vissel Kobe, Messi said, "If I'm honest, I still don't know if I can play or not, but I'm feeling much better, and I really want to be able to contribute."

Fans worldwide will eagerly await updates on Messi's condition and hope to witness his exceptional skills on the field during upcoming games.
