Air India, India’s largest airline, has unveiled a brand new look as part of its major overhaul. The airline, now under the ownership of Tata Group, aims to position itself as a prominent international aviation player, on par with renowned carriers like Etihad, Emirates, and Singapore Airlines.
The new Air India livery and logo showcase a vibrant and colorful design. The emphasis is not just on aesthetics but also on a complete transformation of the airline. Campbell Wilson, Air India's CEO, stated, "Colors, patterns, shapes, and how they come together and what they represent matter, but our actions speak so much louder. We are in the midst of a total transformation to reimagine the role of India’s flagship airline."
The redesign goes beyond just a fresh coat of paint. Air India plans to purchase 470 new planes from Airbus and Boeing. Furthermore, existing aircraft will undergo upgrades, such as the addition of new seats, in-flight Wi-Fi, and upgraded entertainment systems.
In addition to the physical changes, Air India has announced plans to enhance its customer experience. The airline will build new lounges at key hubs like Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi and John F Kennedy International Airport in New York City. Additionally, they will introduce a 24/7 customer support phone network available in nine languages.
Air India also intends to revamp its loyalty program in 2024. As a member of Star Alliance, the airline aims to provide more attractive benefits to its frequent flyers. The Star Alliance network includes popular carriers such as Air Canada, United Airlines, and Lufthansa.
This transformation comes at a crucial time for Air India, following a series of embarrassing incidents. The airline faced criticism from India’s aviation regulator for mishandling on-board incidents, including an incident where a male passenger urinated on a sleeping female passenger.
Overall, Air India's new look and plans signal a fresh start and determination to regain its position as a leading global airline. With a focus on improved service, modernization, and enhanced customer experience, Air India aims to shine in the highly competitive aviation industry.
