In response to the significant surge in gold values in 2024, Rolex SA, the renowned Swiss luxury watch brand, implemented price increases on some of its most sought-after models. The Geneva-based company, renowned for its prestigious craftsmanship and heritage, raised prices by up to 8% on select models crafted from precious metals at the beginning of the year.

One notable example of the price adjustments is the yellow gold Day-Date with a 40-millimeter black dial, which now retails for €44,200 ($45,809), up from the previous price of €41,000. Similarly, the yellow gold GMT-Master II saw a price increase to €44,600 from €41,300.

The decision to raise prices annually, effective on January 1st, is a strategic move influenced by various factors such as consumer demand for luxury items, material and labor costs, and inflation rates. Notably, the price of gold surged by 27% in 2024, marking its most significant annual increase in 14 years - a trend which likely impacted Rolex's pricing strategy.

While the price adjustments for 2025 are more substantial than the previous year's, particularly for precious metal models, the increases on steel models were relatively moderate. For instance, the steel Cosmograph Daytona now retails for €16,000, up from €15,500, and the Submariner dive watch without a date saw a 1.6% increase to €9,500.

Aside from the gold surge, currency fluctuations have historically played a role in Rolex's pricing decisions. In 2022, Rolex adjusted prices in the UK and Europe twice as a response to the strengthening of the Swiss franc against the British pound and the euro.

While Rolex has not provided official commentary on the specific reasons behind the price increases, industry observers speculate that these adjustments are reflective of the brand's commitment to maintaining its premium positioning in the luxury watch market. Rolex's solid reputation for quality and craftsmanship, coupled with its status as the leading luxury watch brand, underscores the enduring appeal and demand for its timepieces worldwide.
