In "Yellowjackets," Warren Kole's character Jeff is not dealing with the extreme challenges of surviving a harsh winter in the wilderness, cannibalism, or trauma, unlike the other characters in the show. Instead, he's trying to save his furniture store from going out of business and grappling with his wife Shauna's (Melanie Lynskey) infidelity. Additionally, he's involved in covering up the murder of Shauna's lover, Adam (Peter Gadiot). In the Season 2 premiere titled "Friends, Romans, Countrymen," Jeff and Shauna return to Adam's studio and discover a shrine of Shauna's sketches, which prompts them to destroy all evidence of the affair before having sex on his desk.

When asked about Jeff's feelings towards Shauna, Kole says that it's evident that Jeff loves her, and she has been the girl for him since high school. However, he admits that Jeff's ego is bruised. In one scene, Jeff listens to Papa Roach's "Last Resort," a song that he has listened to multiple times before, and picks out the drum solo. But, the song takes on a new meaning for Jeff, allowing him to release some of the pressure he's been feeling after experiencing events that are out of his control. Music supervisor Nora Felder explains that the scene is a moment where Jeff expresses his inner rage that has been brewing for a while.

Kole jokes that he hates the song, and his release song would be Kool and the Gang's "Jungle Boogie," which he can lip-sync entirely.
