The Scoville Heat Units (SHU) scale, created by American chemist Wilbur Scoville in 1912, measures the spiciness of chili peppers. To put things into perspective, the average jalapeño pepper ranges between 3,000 to 8,000 SHU, according to Guiness World Records. With its sky-high SHU rating, Pepper X takes spiciness to a whole new level.

Pepper X is the creation of Ed Currie, the founder of Puckerbutt Pepper Company in South Carolina. Currie, who also brought us the Carolina Reaper, devoted over a decade to cultivating Pepper X on his farm. He employed cross-breeding techniques, combining it with some of the spiciest peppers in his collection to enhance its capsaicin content, the compound responsible for the burning sensation.

The world first caught a glimpse of Pepper X on an episode of the immensely popular YouTube series, "Hot Ones." Renowned for its scorching hot sauces and fiery interviews, the show showcased the intense heat and flavor of Pepper X, leaving guests with a burning impression.

Pepper X is leaving no room for dispute. The dethroned Carolina Reaper, widely renowned for its blistering spiciness, is described as "painfully hot" by the Puckerbutt Pepper Company. One can only imagine how they will describe Pepper X, which ranks a staggering 1 million more units on the Scoville scale than the already fearsome Reaper.

As chili pepper enthusiasts and daredevil spice seekers alike anxiously await the opportunity to experience the blistering heat of Pepper X, it is safe to say that this fiery newcomer will leave a lasting impression on anyone brave enough to take on the challenge. With its unprecedented spice levels, Pepper X has unquestionably earned its title as the hottest chili pepper in the world, securing its place in the record books as the new king of spiciness.
